The University of Vigo (UVIGO) is an institution founded in 1990, which in its short historic run has received significant mentions in the international assessments of Universities (especially those relating to young universities).
It has 3 university campuses, with a total of 20.826 students, 1.368 professors and 698 administration and services staff. At present, the UVIGO offers 39 degrees, all adapted to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), 68 Master´s degrees and 36 PhD programs. It also has several own research centers that support R & D and technology transfer activities.
In the field of marine sciences, one of the main supports is the “Campus do Mar” (CdM) (that it was born in 2010 and awarded as International Campus of Excellence). The CdM is a project spearheaded by the UVIGO and promoted by the three Galician universities, the Spanish Council of Scientific Research (CSIC) and the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO). It therefore brings together socio-economic agents and marine researchers from the Galicia-Northern Portugal Euroregion, in order to harness the best possible potential and optimize the available resources. Other four Universities of the North of Portugal (Aveiro, Minho, Porto and UTAD), are included in CdM. The goal was to develop the research in the field of Marine Science and Technology and create social and economic value as a propeller of territorial development. Between the areas de specialization, are included Economic, Legal and Social Sciences, with special regard to the transversal component of these areas in relation to the global objective.
